Bringing History to Life: At The Table with Dr. King Comes to Your School

One of the standout offerings in Community Resources, Inc.'s Classroom Speakers program is At The Table with Dr. King — a multimedia assembly co-produced by the Mizel Museum and More Than Music that brings history to life through live music, poetry, and historical video footage. Designed for students in grades 4 through 12, the assembly explores the American Civil Rights movement in a way that's interactive and deeply engaging. Students aren't just observers — they're participants, invited to connect Dr. King's legacy to their own roles as leaders and community members today.

While this assembly is a natural fit for January and February celebrations of Dr. King's birthday and Black History Month, it's a meaningful experience any time of year. It's part history lesson, part call to action — and a wonderful reminder that service and leadership aren't just things we learn about, they're things we live.

This kind of programming is at the heart of what CRI has always been about. Founded in 1972 as Operation Community Talent, CRI was built on the idea that community members could share their skills and knowledge with local students and families. More than 50 years later, the Classroom Speakers Program has expanded and now has a catalog featuring over 400 presentations from more than 150 individuals and organizations — and At The Table with Dr. King is a shining example of the impact that's possible.
