Connecting Through Music

The sounds of djembes filled the halls as Soul Rhythm African Drumming paid a visit to Eagleton Elementary to celebrate Black History Month. During this exciting and interactive program, Emmanuel Annang and Nico Jimenez shared their love of drumming with the students. In addition to performing, they answered questions from the inquisitive students, explained how the djembe is constructed, and had a little fun with call and response sessions that had students trying to match the expert drummers with their clapping. This opportunity was made possible by Community Resources, Inc.’s collaboration with the Colorado Black Arts Festival.

The Colorado Black Arts Festival (CBAF) is celebrating 38 years of Black artistic excellence and celebrates Black arts and culture in Colorado all year long. As part of this work, CBAF sponsors performances by individuals and groups such as Soul Rhythm African Drumming at events in the Denver metro area.
